Getting to the Ferry Terminals

We’ve made arriving at the terminals stress-free for foot passengers:

  • Lewes, DE: The DART Route 204 bus offers pickup and drop-off directly at the terminal entrance. Buses run every 30 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., connecting you to downtown Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, and surrounding areas.
  • Cape May, NJ: From mid-May through September, a seasonal shuttle provides easy access between the Cape May terminal and local attractions, hotels, and beaches.

How Walk-On Boarding Works

Boarding as a foot passenger is straightforward:

  1. Check-In: Visit the ticket counter inside the terminal to pick up or purchase your ticket.
  2. Security Screening: Screening opens 45 minutes before departure and closes 30 minutes before. To board, you must complete screening within this time window.
  3. Skywalk Access: Use either the terminal stairs or elevator to reach the Skywalk, where you’ll access the boarding ramp.
  4. Boarding the Vessel: Present your ticket to the dock attendant before stepping aboard.

Tip: Have your ticket ready when approaching the ramp to help boarding move quickly for everyone.

No, reservations are not required for walk-on or foot passengers taking the Cape May – Lewes Ferry, but we highly recommend making one. Having a reservation helps us keep you informed of any changes to the sailing schedule.

Without a reservation, we may not anticipate your arrival, which can limit the assistance we can provide regarding your preferred sailing. While it’s not mandatory, we encourage you to consider making a reservation for a smoother experience.

To ensure a smooth boarding experience, all foot passengers are kindly requested to check in at the ticket counter before proceeding to the boarding area. We recommend arriving at the screening area at least 45 minutes before departure to allow ample time for your check-in and screening.

For your safety and that of our staff, we have adjusted the screening process to maintain appropriate social distancing. We appreciate your cooperation in following the signage provided.

  • Passengers are welcome to bring a maximum of 2 carry-on bags.
    Please note that large volumes of luggage will not be permitted to maintain a comfortable and efficient boarding process. We appreciate your understanding!

Yes. Small carry-on bags, backpacks, and rolling luggage are permitted.

Yes, leashed dogs and crated pets are welcome on board.

Yes, in Cape May, we offer a seasonal shuttle service from May through September, or early October, depending on Ferry Excursions or events. For detailed information, we encourage you to visit our Shuttle Information page.

We also have taxi services available, as well as Uber and Lyft. While we can’t recommend specific companies or drivers, we suggest arranging these services in advance to ensure a smooth arrival at the terminal.

In Lewes, you’ll find the DART (Delaware Area Rapid Transit) bus conveniently picks up and drops off right in front of the terminal. For the latest schedules, please visit the DART website and look up route 204.
